After securing all twenty of their phone numbers but adding a little dot to the corner of the ones that seemed more 'pure' and therefore better quality, I retired back to my room. I ordered a fresh pot of coffee, and some vodka and red bulls. Hard drugs were easily accessible to the band but none of us went there, tempting though it felt at times on my part at least. I didn't want to get past a point of no return.
Lying on the sofa in my room it was a rare moment of utter peace. No-one else around whatsoever. But the truth was I felt lonely. I was hardly ever alone, usually surrounded by my bandmates, crew, or women, and yet when I did get some time to myself it reminded me of how sad my life was outside of the busy world I inhabited.
Noah getting married hadn't helped. I was so pleased for him. His and Stacey's road to happiness had been littered with speed humps, craters, and a few collisions, but now they were finally settled and loved up, and I was jealous. I couldn't help it. They shone in each other's company, their souls on fire. Mine wouldn't do that because I didn't have one. All because I fell for a deal with a demon.
A knock came to the door and I walked over to it looking through the spyhole. Then I opened the door quickly.
My parents and younger brother were outside.
"Surprise." They all yelled.
"Oh my god. I thought you said you couldn't make it?" They all lived in Devon, had moved a few years ago and I'd been crushed when Mum had said their holiday home was full and they couldn't get away.
"We were just messing with ya. We wouldn't miss it for the world." My mum said pulling me into her embrace. I sank into her arms. It felt so good. My parents were amazing people who'd offered me support all through my life, especially through my school years where I'd been picked on for puberty giving me a ton of spots and extra-greasy hair.
I hugged my dad next and then turned to my brother, Richie. He was fifteen, ten years younger than me, but where I'd looked like I'd been covered in sweetcorn at his age, Richie was six foot and clear skinned. He'd yet to fill out though and so only looked his age.
"I'm not hugging you, man. I might catch a disease." He said.
"Richie!" Mum admonished.
"Seriously, a crab might crawl out of his trousers and onto me or something." He pulled a face.
"I don't have crabs or any other sexually transmitted diseases." I informed him, much to my mum and dad's horror.
"Er, could we change the conversation?" Dad said. "Maybe you could order us some tea and coffee, and some sandwiches? We haven't had a chance to eat yet."
"Of course. What would you like Richie?"
"Coke and a burger and chips please."
I sorted out their food order while they visited my loo to freshen up and hung up their coats.
